"MASTERPIECE MASQUERADE"

Famous Master Artists are coming to the Beaufort Art Association Gallery in January !  Vermeer, Monet, Dufy, Dali, Winslow Homer and Degas are just a few you may find.  You won’t have to travel to the Paris , Amsterdam , New York or any other fine art museums in order to view some really familiar—or maybe not so familiar—masterpieces.  This exhibit will open on Tuesday, January 6, and continue through February 14.  The Gallery will host a reception to meet the artists on Friday, January 9, 5:30 top 7:30 pm.

More than fifteen of our BAA Gallery artists will be featured “masquerading” as Master Artists.  Some will present artworks in a straightforward manner, emulating the original masterpiece, while others will add a “twist” to their chosen artist’s work. This is serious art, but it’s not to be taken too seriously.

Emulating and copying great artists has always been a proven way to improve one’s artistic skills. Our featured artists had to research, study and practice the styles and techniques used by their chosen Master Artists.

While paying homage to the original master artwork, either in truth or in spoof, you will find our local Masterpiece Masqueraders’ works can rival the art found in the great museums of the world.

Come see how clever our local artists are with paint, collage, drawing, mixed media or construction as they present updated makeovers of their favorite famous artworks.

This show is a great way to brush up on your art history.  Whether you prefer Leonardo da Vinci over Van Gogh, the Impressionists over the Dutch masters, or Georgia O’Keefe over Jackson Pollack, you’re sure to find something that you’ll recognize and enjoy.

The Gallery is at 1001 Bay Street , at the corner of Charles Street , in the historic Elliott House.  Works of 80 member artists are also on display, including paintings, collages, photographs, jewelry, glass, and note cards. Gallery hours are 10 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday.
