Shaken, Not Stirred

The Watercolors of CATHY KEUP

The BEAUFORT ART ASSOCIATION proudly presents the Featured Artist, Cathy Keup, whose exhibit “SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED” will run at the BAA Gallery, 913 Bay Street, from June 25 through August 4, 2012 with an opening reception on FRIDAY, JUNE 29, 2012 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

The title of Cathy’s exhibit is a phrase made famous in the James Bond movies. It refers In Cathy’s work to her bold designs, eye-catching images and gutsy splashes of color. “SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED” is an apt title for the exhibit as evidenced by Cathy’s landscapes and florals that are literally bursting with color and excitement.

Cathy says, “The medium fits my personality because it provides a large degree of artistic freedom and uncertainty, yet offers wonderful surprises as the paint flows to the “beat of its own drummer”.

Cathy began painting twelve years ago while recovering from knee surgery that put a temporary halt to her participation in golf, tennis and skiing. She studied with Lee Fritch for a year, then honed her personal style by attending workshops given by renowned watercolorists from around the country, “Two of my most admired artists are Eric Weingardt of Seattle, Washington, and Frank Francese of Montrose, Colorado,” she says.

Cathy is a juried member of the West Virginia Watercolor Society and her commissioned paintings hang in numerous homes and businesses in West Virginia, Illinois, Ohio and South Carolina. Her painting, “Beach Dreams”, was honored by the Memorial Watercolor Award in the 2008 Beaufort Art Association Spring Show when judge Tom Lynch from Denver, Colorado, spoke of her work as “brilliantly fresh.”

The public is invited to view Cathy Keup’s work at the Gallery of the Beaufort Art Association at the opening reception on June 29, 2012, or any time throughout the month of July.
